Updated POIs API: Query Points of Interest for a Specific Neighborhood or Geography

Great neighborhood insights come from understanding not just where boundaries are drawn, but what exists within and around them. Today, we’re introducing a new update to our Points of Interest (POIs) API that gives customers even more flexibility and precision when querying local amenities.

This enhanced POIs by geography endpoint is now publicly available to all customers with access to the POIs API, making it easier to retrieve points of interest relevant to a specific geography, such as a neighborhood, city, ZIP code, or county.

What’s new?

With this update, POIs are now fully aligned with our other endpoints by offering neighborhood-specific insights. API consumers can query POIs (including specific categories) within Local Logic-defined boundaries.

Even better, we’ve also introduced a buffer parameter, allowing searches beyond a boundary (up to 6.21 miles or 10 kilometers). This reflects how people actually think about neighborhoods: a hospital, school, or grocery store just outside a boundary can be just as relevant as one inside it.

Why this matters

As platforms scale, radius-based searches alone often fall short of how people actually explore neighborhoods. This update introduces a more flexible, geography-aware way to query POIs that works seamlessly across neighborhoods, cities, and counties.

The result is a faster, more intuitive way to access high-quality POI data, designed to scale across use cases and support richer, more accurate local experiences.

What you can do now

The updated API enables a broader range of searches, such as:

  • All Costco locations within Denver, CO
  • All sushi restaurants within 5 km of Victoria, BC
  • All restaurants and bars in or within a 5-minute walk of Downtown Austin, TX

Whether you’re powering consumer-facing search, agent tools, or market analysis, this update ensures POIs reflect how people experience a place, not just how it’s drawn on a map.

Built for better neighborhood context

This release is another step forward in our ongoing focus on high-quality, flexible neighborhood insights. By aligning POIs with our broader geography framework and adding smart extensions, like buffers, we’re making it easier for teams to build richer, more accurate location experiences without added complexity.
